System Configurations

Close coupled solar water heater: In this arrangement, both the solar geyser and solar collector are placed outside on the north facing roof surface or on a stand on a flat surface facing north. As the sun heats the solar collectors, heat is transferred to the hot water cylinder by a thermo siphonic action. This system is suitable for flat or pitched roofs.

Split thermosiphon solar water heater In this arrangement the solar collector is placed outside on the north facing roof surface and the solar geyser is fitted inside the roof space, above the height of the solar collector. As the sun heats the solar collectors, heat is transferred to the hot water cylinder by a thermo siphonic action. This system is suitable for roofs with sufficient pitch and enough roof-space, or gable mounted systems.

Split pumped solar water heater This is the most versatile of all installation types. The solar collectors are placed on the north facing roof , while the solar geyser may be placed conveniently in a location of choice, for example: roofspace, hot water cylinder cupboard, plant room, ect… A dedicated circulation pump is used to move water from the solar collector to the solar geyser. This pump may be solar powered or may also be operated with 220V power.
